A Decade of Sea Turtle Conservation

Feb, 22 2026

We are delighted to mark ten years of partnership with the Olive Ridley Project (ORP), a decade dedicated to supporting marine conservation at Coco Collection.

In 2017, together with ORP, we opened the Maldives’ first veterinary-led Marine Turtle Rescue Centre at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu. What began as a shared vision has grown into a facility that has treated and released 152 injured turtles, with a rehabilitation success rate of nearly 60 per cent. Many of the turtles in our care have been affected by human-related threats such as entanglement in marine debris and ghost nets, and each successful release is a moment of hope for our team.

Beyond rescue and rehabilitation, we are honoured to support ORP’s long-term sea turtle research across the Maldives. Research into nesting activity, population trends and environmental pressures has contributed to the country’s first National Red List Assessment of Threatened Species, published in 2022. It is a privilege to contribute the work that informs national conservation efforts.

Over the past decade, we have contributed nearly 3,500 of these encounters at Coco Collection making this consistent effort reflect our ongoing commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment that surrounds us.

Guests staying with us are invited to learn more through our weekly marine talks and educational sessions led by our resident Marine Educator. When possible, you may also witness the deeply moving experience of rehabilitated turtles returning to the ocean.

As we reflect on ten years of collaboration with the Olive Ridley Project, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our guests and partners for your continued support, which has been instrumental in making this conservation work possible.
